This week, Congressman Henry Waxman released a new study finding that federally funded pregnancy resource centers often misled pregnant teens about the medical risks of abortions. Female investigators, who posed as pregnant 17-year-olds seeking advise about an unintended pregnancy, telephoned the 25 pregnancy resource centers that have received capacity-building funds from the Department of Health and Human Services.

The results were alarming. Eighty-seven percent of the centers reached by investigators provided false or misleading information about abortion, telling investigators that abortion lead to breast cancer, infertility and mental illness.

This disturbing tactic denies teenagers and women vital health information, prevents them from making an informed decision, and is not an acceptable public helth practice.

Read the report:

***These places are probably christian right ran clinics that are trying to scare these women. But not all of them are turning down the abortions, so that means that all of their operatives are still performing such techniques as abortions!!!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! And BEING FUNDED BY BUSH!

The Oman Free Trade Agreement (OFTA) was FORCED through the House of Representatives this week, with Republicans in Congress again choosing priorities that undermine fundamental workers' rights and compromise our national security.

***Thanks to J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) and the rest of the Republican leadership, we have now given Dubai Ports World, a back door into the ports of our country.

House Democrats stand for free and fair trade agreements that include enforceable labor rights that follow basic, core principles. This is crucial to ensure that American companies and workers won't be disadvantaged by unfair competition from countries that don't adhere to these core standards. But OFTA does not have core labor principles in it, does not lift the standards of workers in Oman, and is unfair to American workers. OFTA also includes language that allows foreign intrest to own or manage American ports. The safety of our shores are parmount to out national security, and OFTA takes that security out of American hands.

House Democrats support free and fair trade that benefits American families and raises the living standards of workers at home and abroad. Our economic future depends on our ability to grow, innovate, and compete in the global marketplace. But OFTA is not about growth, innovation or competitivesness. It is a flawed plan that fails American workers, American families, and the American people.

Leader Pelosi on OFTA:

Democratic Whip Steven Hoyer on OFTA:

House Republicans took the opportunity this week to play politics instead of working on the priorities of the American people. This included a failed attempt to amend our Constitution to prohibit same sex marriage. We do not need to enshrine discrimination and bigotry into the Constitution in order "to protect" marriage.

American families are not at risk from same sex marriage. What they are at risk from is stagnant wages, sky high health care costs, and record gas prices.

Likewise, Republicans pushed a court stripping bill "to protect" the phrase "under God" in the national pledge of allegiance---a waste of time at best, and unconstitutional at worst.

If Republicans truly wanted to show compassion, they would work toward policies that benefit our society and raise the $5.15 per hour national minimum wage.

Congress should be addressing the real needs and concerns of the Ameican people, not holding purely political votes to distract and divide. We need a New Direction, and we need it now.

Video: Once Again, Republicans Play Politics of Distract and Divide:

***Doesn't the Republican base find it kinda' strange that the only time these wedge issues come up is when the Republicans need their vote? When are they going to see the light?

WASHINGTON (AP)---President Bush's incompromising support for Israel in its battle with Hexbollah, a stance now backed by Congress, is threatening to isolate the United States even further from the international community.

It is also putting the administration at odds with fragile democratic governments in the Middle East that it is simultaneously trying to prop up, and sowing increasing anger across the Arab world.

***You know, the rest of the world is now viewing the United States and its occupants as a danger in the world. All because of Bush and his Republican puppets. Do you really think that you are safer now than you were when Bush wasn't in office. These Republicans in Washington have proven that they cannot govern. They have made a mess of what we used to call "The Land of Opportunity!"

The democratically elected prime ministers of both Iraq and Lebanon have been among the most vocal critics of U.S. policy in the 10-day Israeli bombardment of Lebanon.

***And don't think that the Iraqi people aren't viewing this because they are. What do you think their attitudes regarding our troops is going to be now?

Some foreign policy analysts question whether Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice can make such headway on her trip to the region early next week---especially given U.S. rejection of international calls for a cease-fire and refusal to talk to key players such as Hezbollah or its Iranian and Syrian sponsors.

"You don't just negotiate with your friends. Sometimes you negotiate with your enemies, or at least your adversaries," said Sandy Berger, former national security adviser in the Clinton White House. "We negotiated with the Soviet Union for 50 years."

***It is the "holier than thou" attitude from this Republican administration that has the U.S. in such bad relations. Bush thinks that he is better than everyone else and the rest of the world doesn't appreciate that. That may have worked for him in Texas, but Texas is only a spot on the map compared to the rest of the world. Bush is very irresponsible just like he has been throughout his whole life. What? Do you think that all of the stories that you have heard about him were made up? There must be a basis for everything. But this time, daddy can't get him out of what danger he has brought upon the United States.

Both the first President Bush and President Clinton met directly with then-Syrian President Hafez al-Assad in efforts to advance Mideast peace prospects.

But the current Bush administration is adamant in resisting any current contact with Syrian President Bashar Assad, sone of the former president, or with Hezbollah leaders.

***That's because Cheney wants to go to war with Syria. It is part of Cheney's "perpetual war" syndrome. He wants Halliburton to be able to reconstruct everything because he gets a cut!

"The track record stinks" in terms of what both former Presidents Bush and Clinton achieved in their meetings with Assad's father, White House press secretary Tony Snow said. And Rice told reporters on Friday, "Syria knows what it needs to do, and Hezbollah is the source of the problem."

***"The track record stinks?" Isn't this the same guy that said "No president has looked this impotent this long when it comes to fulfilling presidential prerogatives." (Tony Snow said this about his current boss, so how are we supposed to take anything that he says about other administrations to heart?)

Hezbollah is an Islamic militant group based in southern Lebanon that is supported by both Syria and Iran. The crisis began when Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and Israel retaliated by widespred bombing in Lebanon and with a naval blockade. Hezbollah upped the ante by firing hundreds of missiles into northern Israel, provoking more Israeli counterattacks and displacing what the U.S. estimates as a half-million people.

Arab anger is rising toward both Israel and the United States, even though moderate governments throughout the region do not wish to see Hezbollah's tentacles grow any further, viewing the group as an extension of Iran's ambitions to increase influence throughout the Middle East.

***I thought that Bush's war on terror was supposed to stop all of this? His war on terror has only made it worse for the United States!

The U.S. has not yet been able to capitalize on that Arab ambivalence toward Hezbollah.

"The administration does the rhetoric of war well, BUT IS NOT VERY GOOD WITH DIPLOMACY," said Judith Kipper, a Middle East specialist at the private Council of Foreign Relations in Washington.

***It's easy to be a bully and have someone else fight your battles. But this Bush administration and his cabinet aren't competent enough to sit down and make diplomatic decisions.

Trips bu Rice to the region "don't accomplish anything," she said.

Both the House and Senate passed resolutions this week by overwhelming margins supporting Israel---and the Bush administration policy---in the conflict.

***And whose the majority in the House and the Senate?

But the votes were probably more of a reflection of midterm election year politics---and a desire not to offend Jewish voters---than any newfound appreciation of Bush's foreign policy skills.

***What foreign policy skills? He has failed 100% on that front!

The combined effect of the administration's hardline pro-Israel stance and Congress' echoing of it is to undermine U.S. policy, said Shibley Telhami, a Mideast scholar at the University of Maryland.

"We're acquiescing in what is obviously a humanitarian disaster, regardles of who's to blame. And that is not a message that helps the United States," Telhami said.

While leaders of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan have condemned Hezbollah's tactics, "they're going against public opinion in their countries. You have an ovrwhelming outpouring of public support for Hezbollah."

***This is what causes terrorism. The will of the people and not their government! BUSH IS CREATING MORE TERRORISTS! How can we be safe with this administration?

Daniel Ayalon, Israel's ambassador to Washington, said Israel understands public opinion has been inflamed in the Arab world. He said he expects "a spike against us" in the days to come, but he emphasized that Israel was not prepared to give up its campaign until Hezbollah is sufficiently weakened.

***That's what Bush thought about the insurgency in Iraq. He thought that he was going to get them under control. Instead, just the opposite happened and we now have more enemies than friends.

At that point, Israel might consider supporting an international peacekeeping presence, Ayalon said in an interview with the Associated Press. But not before.

For the Bush administration, it's a hard balancing act.

It wants to show it is reaching out to allies in the Middle East and in Europe, as with Rice's trip to Israel and the Palestinian territories and then to Rome for a broader meeting. But the administration also doesn't want to meet with Syria, Hezbollah or Iran---and it wants to give Israel time to try to find and destroy Hezbollah command centers and weapons stockpiles.

***Don't be surprised if the Bush administration comes up with war plans by Hezbollah stating that they were going to make a hit on the U.S. The U.S. and Israel are and have been working on this together for a long time. Why, you ask? Because it's election season! When do you think they are going to put Saddam Hussein to death? Why are his attorneys (from the U.S.) boycotting his trial. DELAY TACTICS! The Bush administration needs Saddam put to death as close to the elections as possible. If not this election season, then in 2008!

It all results in what critics suggest is a one-sided form of shuttle diplomacy.

Rice defended the style of her diplomacy---as well as the late start. "I could have gotten on a plane and rushed over and started shuttling and it wouldn't have been clear what I was shuttling to do," she said Friday.

***It's all a plan!

Nearly 2 years after the release of several critical homeland security recommendations from the 9/11 Commission, REPUBLICANS HAVE FAILED TO MAKE OUR NATION AS SECURE AS IT SHOULD BE.

This week, House Democrats released a report detailing Democratic efforts to enhance our nation's security and the REPUBLICAN ROADBLOCKS THAT HAVE PREVENTED CONGRESS FROM ENHANCING CRITICAL REFORMS. In fact, the 9/11 Commission's report card GAVE THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION AND CONGRESS A FAILING GRADE ON IMPLEMENTING THEIR SECURITY RECOMMENDATIONS.

Nearly 5 years after the 9/11 attacks, WE ARE NOT AS SAFE AS WE SHOULD BE. We have every reason to ask why and demand President Bush and Republican leaders make the safety of the American people their number one priority.

Democrats continue to call for the implementation of all the 9/11 Commisions recommendations, and will continue to fight for bipartisan solutions that will keep Americans safer.

Learn more about the 9/11 Commission:

This week, President Bush issued the first veto of his presidency on "The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act," a bill that would expand federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. The President's veto destroyed the hope of millions of Americans who are suffering from diseases, such as Parkinson's and diabetes, that could be cured by stem cell research.

Stem cell research is about solid science, ethical guidelines and the potential that scientific research has to improve the health of the American people. Every family in America is one telephone call or one diagnosis away from needing this critical research. Passing this bill would have opened the door for medical research and give many Americans new hope in the power to cure.

Led by Congresswoman Diana DeGette, more than 90% of House Democrats attempted to override the President's veto, but too many Republicans chose to rubber stamp President Bush, putting politics ahead of progress.

Watch Rep. Jim Langevin on the Presidential veto:

***This Republican president and this Republican congress is keeping this nation at a standstill. They won't look ahead into the future. They can't get passed 9/11 and they don't want us to move ahead medically either. Many of our troops could have benefited from this stem cell research but instead, the Bush administration decided to slap them in the face once again! I do not believe that if Bush became ill and stem cell was his last hope, that he wouldn't use it behind the backs of the people! He's just that way! He is a phoney and people need to realize this or the only place that this nation is headed will be World War II and I actually believe that some of that war will be fought right here on our own soil because we are hated that much around the world. All of this thanks to Bush and his Republican Puppets!!!!!

*Undercover GAO agents buy material that should have been destroyed

Government Accountability Office investigators posing as private citizens were able to buy sensitive excess military equipment from a Department of Defense logistics agency, a GAO report obtained by NBC News shows.

The equipment included two launcher mounts for shoulder-fired guided missiles, two guided missile radar test sets, ceramic body armor inserts currently used by deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanastan, a digital signal converter used in naval surveillance, an all-band antenna used to track aircraft and 12 digital microcircuits used in F-14 fighter aircraft.

GAO identified at least 79 buyers of 2,669 sensitive items between November 2005 and June 2006.

GAO made purchases as recently as last month and was able to purchase some new and unused items at a fraction of the cost military units currently purchase them for. The department controls what can be sold, and the logistics agency carries out the transaction.

U.S. officials point out that sensitive Defense Department military surplus items have been illegally exported TO CHINA AND IRAN!

***There is no surplus during a war! Maybe that's why the Bush administration can't handle the war in Iraq. THEY'RE SELLING EVERYTHING! And I bet that there are still people who don't see this Republican administration for what they truly are. THIEVES! They would sell out our troops for a few dollars! They are as corrupt as they come.

The investigation was a follow-up to GAO's May 2005 report that found $466M in lost, damaged and missing excess Defense Department property from fiscal year 2002-FY 2004.

A hearing is scheduled on the issue Tuesday before the House National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations Subcommittee. The hearing is entitled "DOD Excess Property: Inventory Control Breakdowns Present a Security Risk."

***This administration is the lowest of the low! It's time to call for an impeachment!
